So when Sienna's front teeth came through when she was a baby her left front tooth developed a cavity within a month. We've been keeping a close eye on this cavity and by now it had disintegrated about half of her tooth. We finally decided to pull the tooth, but this required her to be put under at St. Lukes. We had done this last year with Jordon so I felt comfortable about doing this. It's an excellent choice I think when kids are young to keep from traumatizing them of the dentist at such a young age.
I got up at 4am this morning and got ready. Woke up Sienna at 5am and get her ready. We were out the door by 5:30am. We got checked in at the hospital and pulled back to the surgery area by 6:20am. By 6:40am they took us back to pre-op. Sienna wanted nothing to do with the bed or gown. So she just sat on my lap. We attempted to give her her oral sedation ... that didn't go well. She spit it right back out. So they had to do a nasal one. It took just a matter of seconds, she had no idea. Worked like a charm. Within 2 minutes she was good to go. One of the nurses carried her back and the other two pushed the bed. They came out to tell me that she went under perfectly. They put the mask on her and asked her about the disney princess and she was out. No fussing or whimpering. Phew!!
After the procedure Dr. Cheryl Higer (dentist) came out and told me everything went great. She was glad we had decided to do the procedure because Sienna's tooth was forming an abscess (not good) so she extracted the tooth. She was able to take care of 4 other cavities and cleaned her teeth.
Most kids when coming out of anesthesia are very disoriented and cranky. We thought for sure she would be. She woke up about 10 minutes after they pulled me back in a great mood. She was happy and didn't fuss once.
I'm so thankful for such a great pediatric dentist that has the best intentions for my kids. She is awesome and I would recommend her to anyone!
